Also, thermal noise (or "Johnson noise") is an issue the higher temperature, the higher the noise.įurther, noise is generated due to the presence of air around the microphone. Primarily this noise originates from a current running in the circuitry (so-called "shot noise" or "Poisson noise"). However, there is always some portion of noise generated by the microphone itself – self-noise. Noise is not something we want to hear from a microphone. You will find data quantifying the "equivalent noise level”, which describes what goes on at the bottom of the microphone’s dynamic range – basically in the range of low SPLs.

Unfortunately, completely free is impossible! To prepare for a good audio result, you should check the microphone's noise specifications. We look forward to hearing back from you. When we use a microphone, we expect the cleanest possible signal, ideally completely free of annoying noise.

This being the case, future updates to our driver may potentially resolve the issue you're currently experiencing.ĭoes this problem occur with any other programs?ĭoes changing the sample rate/buffer size make any difference?ĭoes switching to the Microsoft class driver make any difference?ĭoes enabling the “Legacy” audio mode in Discord help?ĭoes running Discord in a browser rather than the app (or vice versa) make any difference?
#WHAT COULD CAUSE BUZZING FROM AUDIO INTERFACE AND MIC DRIVERS#
We are continually working to improve our drivers with the hope of supporting as many different machine configurations, pieces of software and different ways of using our devices as is possible. Microsoft have their own class compliant driver which isn't designed with low latency in mind and so may give better results in this particular case. Our devices are 'class compliant' which means that they can use drivers written to meet the class compliant specification. Applications such as Discord may not play particularly nicely with drivers designed specifically for this sort of purpose as they generally like to take very large buffers (to counter for the fact that large latencies may be encountered due the nature of sending audio packets over an internet connection), as opposed to the short, fast buffers desirable when recording musicians. Our driver is primarily designed to give solid, low latency performance in ASIO applications, to allow users to record high quality audio into a Digital Audio Workstation. We're aware of reports of issues with our Scarlett range with certain Voice over IP programs, such as Discord. Thanks for getting back in touch with us today. Got this from a Focusrite Tech Support representative:

I've also tried changing the buffer size to something bigger, but nothing has helped so far.Įdit: Something to note, if I record guitar or my mic on a DAW (Reaper for example) everything works like a charm, no choppyness or weird sound, but when I use other applications on Windows like games, Discord, Chrome, etc. I only can go to 192KHz to solve the issue, but then some games or certain applications sound wierd, but the Mic works well.

#WHAT COULD CAUSE BUZZING FROM AUDIO INTERFACE AND MIC PC#
I've tried the same as you and it works again for a while, then after a PC restart, some sample rates start dying, for example 48KHz and 41.1KHz start acting in this way. I´ve always had the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd gen at 48KHz and 16 samples, running without an issue, suddenly Rainbow Six Siege started to act the same as you state, and also the sound of my Mic (Audio Technica AT2020) started to sound choppy/robot like or even like clipping.

I'm having the same issue but with different sample rates.
